Gunsgreen is a fascinating smuggler’s palace in the Scottish Borders fishing town of Eyemouth.
The house is an established tourist attraction, and is full of fun and adventures, especially for younger visitors. Weddings are held on the ground and first floors, with accommodation above on the second floor. The house also has stylish accommodation for self-catering rentals.
We were asked to identify opportunities for transforming parts of the venue, in order to exploit their full potential for events.
WHAT WE DID
We identified the rather creepy and dark cellars as a unique opportunity to provide a fantastic convivial venue for events and parties, and offer a complete contrast from more traditional reception rooms. We felt the cellar ceilings were distinctive and gave the space fantastic dramatic potential.
A bar area and screen were added to create a versatile party space. Creative lighting and some well-chosen props from our collection helped to create a colourful atmosphere and highlight the lively smuggling theme. The spiral staircase leading down from the reception rooms was also lined with lanterns and candles, to give arriving guests a sense of excitement.
“Lindsey Hunter at Get Talked About has helped us identify other areas of the property which, although used as part of the tourist attraction, has not been used for other purposes. Lindsey transformed the old cellars into a fairy-lit extravaganza, and they are now used for evening celebrations for our weddings and celebratory events. We are delighted to have this extra space, which looks so vibrant and helps us to stand out from the crowd.”
“Lindsey has also helped us style our Education Room, normally used by students during the day, into a cosy Smugglers’ Den – perfect for linking the more formal reception rooms in the house and the cellars, for weddings and events.”
“We are delighted with our two imaginative new spaces, and there is no doubt that the results of styling these two areas have had a significant impact on the number of enquiries we are now receiving.”
